During the last decades the approximation and the community of features between the modernist writers of Spain and Spanish Amaerica have been emphasized. By this way we have overcome the inoperative dichotomy between Modernism and '98 Generation. The present article try to show this community of features through the research about the consciousness over the time, an omnipresent subject in the literature of the 20th century, in two capital poets of Spanish and Spanish American Modernism: Antonio Machado and Ruben Darío. In two both the time produces an existencial drama that coincides in its origins and its aims, but certainly different in the peculiar spiritual and stylistic development.
