This article has got three parts. We consider that the first one in a technical description of Juan Martin, «El Empecinado's» manuscript. We appoint here how many sheets has it got and how many sheets of them are written in its back. In the second part we make a detailed study where we try to show how did the novelist compose his novel, how many sheets has the first writing or Alpha version got, how many sheets has the second writing or Beta version got, and when did the novelist revise his work and when was the first version changed by the second one. Finally in the third part we try to make an analysis for two very important secuences (chapter XI and chapters XIV-XVII). Each secuence has got two diferent redactions. The first writing has been refused by the novelist and has been changed by a new version because Galdós wanted to underline the generous character of his hero and to complete the plot of the first series of Episodios nacionales.
