Subject, intertextuality, dialogism and auto-fiction in the metaliterary trilogy of Enrique Vila-Matas

This article looks at the three most often recurring elements in the metaliterary trilogy of Enrique Vila-Matas (shaped by the novels Bartleby y compañía, El Mal de Montano and Doctor Pasavento): intertextuality, dialogism and auto-fiction. These textual mechanisms, together with others (generic hybridization, writing fragments) open up problems in the concept of Subject, and in the creation of this notion of multiple and open identities which dominate the three texts, creating a fragmented and chameleon-like I.
