This study presents an analysis of the diary, written by Cristóbal Gutiérrez de Medina, about Marquis of Villena’s voyage from Escalona to the city of Mexico due to his appointment as New Spain’s Viceroy (1640). This document is unique since it is the only one displaying such characteristics and preserved so far. Moreover, Marquis of Villena was the first Spanish nobleman to hold such position. These facts are the basis for the analysis of the document from the perspective of the travelling celebrations held after his disembarking at Veracruz.
