Abstract

The poet Manuel Altolaguirre felt an intense attraction towards theatre during the Spanish war. He became director of La Barraca, the famous student company Lorca had founded, and later of the Teatro Español, he took part in the writing of El triunfo de las germanías with José Bergamín, and he re-wrote a political drama called Entre dos públicos, which he transformed in Amor de madre, following the path of Gorki and others, maybe in order to get that material into the mould of am ideological orthodoxy from which he would repente Turing his exile years.
