Etxebarria foregrounds discussions on the production and consumption of the novelistic enterprise, and she fuels the debate by using gender as kindling. Etxebarria's power of attraction lies in her ability to reside on the edge of the frame of her books, there where the creation of literature meets the dissemination of the book as material object. The question that I examine in this article —«What is all the fuss about?»— provides a comprehensive look at how the author plays with the commercial construction of gender during *, from 1997 to 2003, when she most clearly had to confront the consumptive tensions in the cultural field and mod a position for herself in the contemporary scene of the 1990s.
