This article is intended to study the two first stories by Adelaida García Morales, El sur and Bene, as examples of lyric ‘novels of formation’ (Bildungsroman). In both cases the exploration of feelings and sensations is basic in a narrative that shows a clearly subjective form of world representation. Nevertheless, El sur revolves around an idealistic vision of the human being and human relationships, while Bene is a ‘Gothic tale’ in which the supernatural turns out to be relevant, thus setting a completely different ground for literary representation.
