In his study of the play, the author defends the thesis that the conflict between the forces of Good and Evil are not resolved in favour of the former, as is the usual interpretation. He argues that the adultress Mari Gaila is not forgiven by her husband but by Séptimo Miau, who has, by using his satanic powers, usurped his personality. In this way, the divine words of pardon are, in fact, 'satanic' words.
