This article tries to elaborate a definition of tone in the different arts and specially in literature. The definition is based on the emotional affects as releasing elements. Tones are divided in natural and ficcional ones; both are transmitted in three phases: firstly tones are released by affects, secondly affects are transformed in perceptible tones and third: tones are retransformed in affects in the reception. Finally the article offers a rough draft of tones in the different arts with special stress on literature.
